Residential Drug and Alcohol Rehab

At BriteLife Recovery, we believe that addiction and mental health challenges stem from disconnection—from self, from others, and from a sense of meaning or purpose. Our residential treatment program provides the safe, structured environment you need to rebuild those connections and begin your journey toward lasting recovery.

What Is Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment?

Residential treatment, sometimes called inpatient rehab, offers intensive, round-the-clock care for individuals working through substance use challenges. Unlike outpatient programs where you return home each day, residential treatment means living at the facility while you focus entirely on healing.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), residential care typically lasts from a few weeks to several months, providing the time and space needed to address the physical, psychological, and social aspects of addiction. This immersive approach removes you from the environments and triggers that may have contributed to substance use, allowing you to develop new patterns of thinking, relating, and coping.

At BriteLife Recovery, residential treatment goes beyond symptom reduction. We see recovery as the restoration of wholeness, agency, and authentic well-being. Our approach honors the understanding that addiction is not evidence of moral failure, but rather a response of a nervous system doing its best to cope without adequate safety and support.

Who Benefits from Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment is particularly helpful for individuals who need a higher level of structure, supervision, and support during early recovery. You might consider residential care if you:

  • Have tried outpatient treatment without achieving lasting sobriety
  • Need medical support during detoxification
  • Live in an environment where substance use is prevalent
  • Experience co-occurring mental health challenges alongside addiction
  • Want dedicated time away from daily responsibilities to focus on healing

Research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) confirms that addiction is a treatable condition, and treatment enables people to counteract addiction's effects on their brain and behavior to regain control of their lives.

The BriteLife Recovery Approach to Residential Care

Our residential program is built on the understanding that substance use and mental health conditions frequently coexist and influence one another. We provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment that brings together medical, psychiatric, clinical, and wellness services to support the whole person.

Trauma-Responsive Care

We recognize that trauma and adverse life experiences often underlie the emotional, psychological, and behavioral patterns that bring individuals into treatment. Rather than treating trauma as separate or secondary, we integrate trauma-responsive principles throughout our care—providing a foundation of safety, empowerment, and compassion. Research published in clinical journals demonstrates that trauma-informed approaches in residential treatment lead to significant improvements in both substance use and mental health outcomes.

Evidence-Based Therapies

BriteLife Recovery delivers evidence-based, strength-oriented, and person-centered care. Our clinical programming includes individual therapy, group therapy, and psychiatric services tailored to your unique needs. We utilize proven therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you develop healthier thought patterns and coping strategies.

Healing Through Connection: Our Group Therapy Program

Because we believe that addiction is fundamentally a disease of disconnection, group therapy forms the heart of our programming. Our process groups focus on here-and-now interactions between members, targeting interpersonal learning and emotional processing in a safe and supportive environment. These groups allow for healing through interpersonal connection—addressing the wounds that often contribute to substance use.

Our group offerings include:

  • Process Groups that improve self-awareness, enhance emotional expression, and help you develop healthier ways of relating to others
  • Specialty Groups on topics like healthy relationships, family roles, attachment styles, and communication skills
  • Creative Expression Groups that use art, music, writing, and movement to deepen self-awareness and reconnect you with your creative self
  • Focus Groups covering addiction science, triggers, mindfulness skills, and strategies to maintain sobriety

Nature-Informed Therapy

BriteLife Recovery offers an innovative approach that integrates the healing power of nature with evidence-based therapeutic practices. Grounded in Ecopsychology, our Nature-Informed Therapy addresses the mental health impacts of nature disconnection by fostering deeper relationships with the environment, yourself, and others.

Our 14 nature-informed modules include topics such as "Rewiring the Anxious Brain with Nature in Mind," "Radical Acceptance and Letting Go: Lessons from the Trees," "Self-Compassion: A Pathway to Peace," and "Returning to Joy: The Healing Power of Play in Nature." Clinicians leading these groups are certified in Nature-Informed Therapy, ensuring you receive expert guidance as you reconnect with the natural world.

Adventure Recovery

Our Adventure Recovery program incorporates mental health awareness and recovery-based practices into transformative, experiential activities. These experiences create space to explore, experience awe, embrace beginner's mind, and overcome limitations—real or imagined. The flexible integration of learning across body, mind, and spirit helps you discover new strengths and capabilities you may not have known you had.

Holistic Wellness Services

Our commitment to whole-person healing extends beyond traditional clinical care. We offer integrative wellness services including yoga, acupuncture, massage, sound healing, breathwork, and art therapy. These services help you reconnect with your body, regulate your nervous system, and cultivate balance across mind, body, and spirit.

Nutrition also plays a vital role in recovery. Our culinary team creates menus that consider the powerful connection between what you eat and how you feel, supporting emotional well-being and mental health through nourishing whole foods.

What Makes BriteLife Recovery Different

A Trauma-Informed Approach

We recognize that substance use often stems from disconnection—from yourself, from others, and from a sense of meaning or purpose. Many people entering detox carry the weight of trauma and adverse life experiences. Rather than viewing addiction as a moral failing, we understand it as your nervous system's response to overwhelming circumstances.

Our trauma-informed approach means we prioritize safety, respect, and empowerment from the moment you arrive. We create an environment where you can begin healing without shame or judgment.

Whole-Person Care

While detox focuses primarily on physical stabilization, we never lose sight of the whole person. Our integrated approach considers your emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs alongside medical care. This holistic perspective continues as you move into residential treatment, where medical, psychiatric, clinical, and wellness services work together seamlessly.

Compassionate, Experienced Staff

Our medical and nursing teams specialize in addiction medicine and understand the complexities of withdrawal. They approach each person with compassion, recognizing the courage it takes to seek help. You're not just a patient to us—you're a person deserving of dignity, respect, and the highest quality care.

Preparing for Lasting Recovery

Detox clears substances from your body, but recovery is about rebuilding your life. We use this time to help you understand what comes next, answer questions about the recovery process, and begin connecting you with the support systems that will sustain your healing long-term.

Locations and Availability

BriteLife Recovery offers medically supervised detox at our facilities in Hilton Head, South Carolina and West Kill, New York. Both locations provide 12-16 detox beds in safe, comfortable settings designed to support your early recovery.

Our detox services are available seven days a week, and our admissions team can often facilitate same-day or next-day admission to ensure you receive care when you're ready.

Taking the First Step

Deciding to seek help for substance use is an act of courage and self-compassion. If you or someone you love is struggling with alcohol or drug dependence, medically supervised detox offers a safe path forward.

The SAMHSA National Helpline emphasizes that it's never too late to seek treatment, and early intervention improves outcomes. Whether this is your first time seeking help or you've tried before, every recovery journey is unique, and we're here to support yours.

At BriteLife Recovery, we believe that healing begins by rebuilding connections—starting with the connection between your mind and body during detox, then expanding outward to healthy relationships, meaningful purpose, and authentic wellbeing.

You don't have to face withdrawal alone. Our medical team is ready to guide you through this process safely, compassionately, and with the dignity you deserve.

What to Expect During Residential Treatment at BriteLife

Medical Detoxification

For many individuals, treatment begins with medically supervised detoxification. Our medical and nursing teams provide around-the-clock monitoring and support to help you safely manage withdrawal symptoms. During this phase, you'll also begin learning coping skills—including guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, self-compassion practices, and breathwork—that you can use throughout your recovery.

Full Clinical Programming

Once medically stable, you'll transition into full residential programming. A typical day includes multiple group therapy sessions, individual therapy, wellness activities, and time for reflection and rest. The average stay at BriteLife Recovery is approximately 28 to 30 days, though treatment duration is personalized based on your unique needs and progress.

Throughout your stay, you'll work closely with your treatment team—including therapists, case managers, medical staff, and wellness providers—who collaborate to support your healing journey. We maintain a staff-to-client ratio that ensures you receive the personal attention you deserve, with clinical staff available seven days a week.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

When appropriate, we offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using FDA-approved medications such as Suboxone, Naltrexone, and Vivitrol. Combined with counseling and behavioral therapies, these medications can be highly effective in supporting recovery from opioid and alcohol use disorders.

Family Involvement

When clients choose to involve loved ones, we provide education and resources to foster healing for the whole family system. We offer family therapy and support through the BALM (Be A Loving Mirror) program—free weekly virtual sessions that help family members understand addiction and learn how to support recovery while caring for their own well-being.

Planning for Lasting Recovery

Recovery doesn't end when you leave residential care. Your case management team works with you from the beginning to develop a comprehensive discharge plan.

We encourage active engagement in recovery fellowships such as 12-step programs or alternative support groups, as connection remains essential to sustained recovery. Our alumni services keep you connected to the BriteLife community through virtual and in-person groups, activities, and celebrations—because we believe that healing happens in relationship.
